We Bought The Farm!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, we didn't really buy a farm, but we did buy a motorhome last night.  Which is the most crazy thing ever, because we were not in the market for a motorhome at all.

Then my friend Misti called and said she was buying a brand new 32 foot Fleetwood and did we want their old motorhome?  Since Greg and I spent a year traveling the country in a 34 foot, Class A Bounder, then another year in a Lance camper on his truck, pulling a car, not pulling a car, and pulling a motorcycle, we've thought long and hard about how we could make RVing work with the kids.

And we decided we couldn't make RVing work with the kids. Due to our extensive experience, we think it's essential to have a pull car.  Since our pull car needs a third row because we have all these darn kids, we'd need a 100,000 dollar diesel pusher to pull a car that is big enough for us.

So then we decided the only way to do it is a fifth wheel.  However, we still don't have a vehicle with enough seats for our family in Greg's truck to pull a fifth wheel.  His truck only seats five.

Having that fourth kid really threw us into a whole different category.

So we told her we just didn't think the motorhome would work for us, thanks anyway.  The reason she's getting rid of it is because it's too small and she only has triplets.

Then yesterday, she called and said the dealership wasn't going to give them squat for the trade-in and they didn't want to deal with creepy people on Craigslist, so did we want it for the dealer trade-in price?

I think we can all agree that Greg IS a creepy guy on Craigslist, so we just couldn't refuse this offer.  Misti said she didn't even care if we turned around and sold it for a profit.  She just wanted it out of her driveway.

So we bought it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the most amazing part of it is that Misti's husband refurbished the ENTIRE thing.  New carpeting, new linoleum, new window coverings, new toilet, new TV, new tires, new brakes...........

I am being dead serious when I say it's like brand new and only has 33,000 miles on it.  It is absolutely gorgeous.

It's only 24 feet, but we think that's possibly small enough to not have to take a pull car.  We could actually drive that beast around.  Given the fact my van only gets 12 miles per gallon in the summer, it wouldn't even cost us that much difference in gas!!!!

So we're totally, totally, totally going to go see some national parks this summer.  I want to do Yellowstone, Glacier, Mt. Rushmore, Yosemite.

Do you even understand how insanely happy I am?  The kids are at a PERFECT age for this now.

Now I'll have to take up photography so I can book sessions to pay for the gas.  (I'm KIDDING, sort of.)

  1. Will you put up a dumb map with a freaky font and little colored dots to let us know where you're going? Why wait til summer?? Pull the kids out of school now and go! Take photos of people's kids while you're at it. What?! Sorry, I'm on the wrong blog!! :)

  6. Love the references!!

I am so jealous. I want to do an RV trip with my girls so badly, but I need another adult to split the driving, so I'm stuck until I find a man or convince my brother and his family to go with us.

I can't wait to hear about your trips!

  9. Very happy for you and your Mormon family! My real question is; does it have a diesel engine or a gas engine... and which gas or diesel engine does it have? If it has a diesel, I think you should make your own bio-diesel to power it! Just what you need, another project.

  10. that's awesome! you guys get the best deals! i have been contemplating a motorhome for later on down the line - basically not for travel but to use as a guesthouse when my family comes to visit. i know it sounds kinda redneck- but where we live, the houses are tiny (right by the beach)- and the building codes are crazy- so if we got a nice motorhome, it would be kinda like a guesthouse without the permits. it never gets too hot or cold here, so that's a positive. you will have to keep us updated. i am so excited for you! how much did you pay for it? (i know that's rude to ask but i'm in the market for one...on craiglist, of course! haha)

  13. Thank you for the comment! I won't post it! ;-) We have the Omega J8004 - My MIL bought it for us, but I would get it anyway...worth every penny. It is awesome- the pulp is dry. I was really skeptical, but ended up loving it. Your juice fast last year inspired me! :-)

Does NV DMV make you pay tax on it like CA does? Of course, everybody lies about the purchase price.

  17. I'm so jealous! Hubby and I want to buy an RV and travel in the summers, but we can't find a great deal on one. I totally want to see a map on your blog when you start traveling :)) And you could always start selling certain weight loss products to pay for gas! HA!

Wow! I enjoyed reading your blog, and your life. I changed my mind today. Many of the comments you allowed are making fun of another mommy blogger. The same hate site that posts ugly things about your blog?
